BEYOND BUSKING FESTIVAL DAY

With the Beyond Busking Festival Day, we’re following international trends -where busking is considered a career – providing street musicians and artists with a sustainable income. With Cape Town being one of the world’s top ten cities, this project has legs.

Cape Town Arts Festival hosted the first Beyond Busking Festival Day on the 29th of October 2022 at the Castle of Hope.  The festival created work for 425 artists, volunteers,  and suppliers while attracting an audience in excess of 1000 attendees, offering a multigenre arts event.  6 Castle venues hosted interactive visual arts exhibitions with emerging artists, poetry workshops, buskers, musicians, indigenous dance, yoga, Tai Chi, wellness and Food market, craft design market, and reimagine Cape Town Arts Symposiums.

6 Buskers from the Beyond Busking Programme launched their big-stage careers at the festival. They were joined by other busking musicians and headliner artists songstress Anelli Kamfer and Xhosa rapper Flash Ikumkani.

The next Beyond Busking Festival Day is planned for March 2024 at the Castle of Good Hope.
