Buyambo Arts Festival at Azande Theatre Village

The Cape Town Arts Festival powered by Ariva Arts Foundation in partnership with Khayelitsha Kreatives hosted Buyambo Arts Festival on Saturday, the 3rd of June 2023 at Azande Theatre Village, 4 Crescent Makhaza, Khayelitsha.

Khayelitsha Kreatives was born out of the Creative Community Connectors Project – a PESP (Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme) managed by the CDI (Craft and Design Institute) in partnership with the CTAF (Cape Town Arts Festival), a Social Employment Fund (SEF) by the IDC (Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa). The project started in October 2022 and is shaped through a focus on the role of culture in community building and as a tool for identifying opportunities for innovation. The project provides social employment for creative practitioners in Cape Town communities by giving unemployed artists opportunities to earn an income and be productive while playing a role in community building.

The Festival Day was filled with a variety of entertainment and activities from a puppetry walk from Chris Hani to Azande Theatre Village, Craft Designs from Blossom Crafts to performances from Institute for Music and Indigenous Art Development (IMAD), Makukhanye Arts and Gumboots Dance, Qhama Music, Isibane Se Africa, Inkeqe Disciple Makers, Amathunzi Arts and Development Centre and a theatre performance by Khayelitsha Kreatives. The CT Arts Festival would like to take this opportunity to thank our industry partners Ariva Arts Foundation and Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Craft Design Institute, and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). We would also like to thank Azande Theatre Village for opening a space for the arts in Makhaza Khayelitsha.
