COMMUNITY ARTS FESTIVALS
Cape Town Arts Festival plans to have 2 festivals in disadvantaged communities in Cape Town.
The focus of community arts festivals is to enhance community well-being and highlight local artists in their own communities. People living and working in the community celebrate and enjoy a range of multi-genre arts including music, poetry, dance, street art, theatre, craft traders, and food market, thus enhancing cross-marketing and increasing audiences through the diversity of arts, crafts, and cuisine. The festivals will include youth, women, and disabled persons. Youth activities include face painting, magic shows, African storytelling on Ubuntu, and other edutainment activities.
AWEH(Artist Wellness Exchange Hub) and WC Community Arts Network will host Reimagining Community Arts, talks on the transformative role of community arts, and explore innovative ways to create sustainability for local artists.
Local judges will evaluate excellence and recommend who will perform at the main city festival at the Castle in November 2023.
Cape Town Arts Festival is planning on hosting 2 community festivals in 2023 – One in Langa on the 10th of June 2023 at Langa Community Hall and one in Philippi on the 24th of September 2023 at Philippi Arts Centre.
