The AIR Entrepreneur Project: Empowering Creativity Through Indigenous Music
The AIR Entrepreneur Project continues to inspire and educate, bringing together artists, makers, and cultural enthusiasts to explore the rich world of indigenous African musical heritage. This latest series of workshops was led by Geoffrey Tracey, a renowned cultural influencer and expert in traditional African music. With a hands-on approach, he guided participants through the art of instrument-making, blending tradition with modern innovation.
A Journey into Sound & Craftsmanship
Participants delved into the fascinating world of sound, learning not just how to build instruments but also how to understand the physics of acoustics and vibration. Through interactive sessions, they explored:
Crafting frame drums using animal skins
Creating percussion instruments from recycled materials
Understanding acoustics, resonance, and amplification principles
Blending creativity & innovation in both traditional and modern instrument-making
This project goes beyond just musicβitβs about sustainability, cultural preservation, and artistic expression, ensuring that indigenous knowledge is passed down while embracing contemporary possibilities.
Community & Cultural Impact
The AIR Entrepreneur Project thrives through the invaluable support of the Ariva Arts Foundation, Griqua National Conference, Tshisa Talent, and Bitou Municipality.
